Our second 5K of the weekend was a fantastic beach run with ice cream at the end! We started out on New Smyrna Beach this morning with some great cloud coverage. It was a there and back, accurately measured course, before the beach crowds arrived. The tide was low and the sand was packed! Packet pickup was a breeze and parking was easy to find.
After the race, we got free ice cream with toppings of your choice. It was well organized and well stocked. We also got $5 each to use at the post party bar. Can you say free mimosas and bloody Mary’s?!
This was a great race that is on our must do for next year. There was a cotton race shirt, generic bib, and custom medal. It was organized by Southern Stone Event Group. Look out for more recaps from their races next month and later this year.
Since the race was not local to us, we opted to spend a night on the coast. We stayed at Anchor Inn Bed and Breakfast. Overall, it was a nice stay. They provided clean and quiet rooms that were very close to our race. The have coffee and cookies 24/7 which is great for an early race. If we do another race near this area, we will consider staying here again for the calm atmosphere.
